Test-IP.org was born out of our own need to be able to quickly find an IP address for a particular provider or location to run pings and traceroutes from various locations to test network performance. Keeping all the information we gather on an Excel sheet just wasn’t enough – We needed to be able share the information across the oceans, making it more logical to reference the IPs and locations via the Web. And so this site was born.
We’ll be adding all the IPs we’ve gathered over the next few days and weeks, and invite YOU to contribute data to aid our search (and anyone else that happens to pass by).
If you’d like to contribute information please try to stick as closely as possible to the format we use (take a look at one of the existing links) although we’ll edit any entries to fit the pattern before we approve them.
We’re also interested in download links for test files from any providers out there. If you have any such links that you’d like to share with us please use our Contact Form to pass us the information and, after verification, we’ll “blog” them in our updates section with suitable tags so that other visitors can find them easily.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OR ADVERTISING SITE. If you wish to comment on any of the blog entries, please restrict posts to URL corrections, download test results from various locations, etc. ALL comments are reviewed before being approved so if you’re here to spam or bad-mouth (or praise) certain providers, please waste your time somewhere else.
DOWNLOAD TESTS:
There are two options here:
- If you would like to post a test FROM a provider, we’d appreciate it if you would stick to a standard format to provide some level of consistency. Our preferred sample file is provided by CacheFly who operate a Content Delivery Network. Their test file is replicated across their network and, in most cases (occasionally your test won’t resolve to Cachefly’s closest PoP), will provide a suitable local link to provide accurate data. To run the test from a Linux server or VPS, please use:
wget -O /dev/null http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.bin
It’s important to include the “-O /dev/null” in the link so that the test file does not write to disk and is a more accurate measure of network performance, unaffected by the disk I/O of the server or VPS you are testing from. Pop your results into a message to us via our Contact Form and we’ll be happy to publish it.
- If you’d like to post test results TO one of the test links posted in our Updates Section from a VPS or server you have, please add it as a comment to the relevant post. Again, using the “/dev/null” option will assist greatly in keeping test results reasonably consistent. All comments are previewed before appearing but we aim to do so within 24 hours. Please include details of where you are testing from and any other relevant information.
And finally, for the technically curious, Test-IP.org is powered by WordPress. We’ve added W3 Total Cache to speed things up a bit, along with WordPress-SEO to help with search engine indexing.
